WAVES 2025 Summit: RIL CMD Mukesh Ambani says ‘what AI is doing to the entertainment industry is hundred times more revolutionary than what cameras were in the silent period’.

Reliance Industries Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani on May 1 said AI tools are dissolving the barriers between dreams and reality and have the potential to make content a thousand times more captivating.
Drawing a comparison to the advent of cameras during the silent film era, Ambani said, “What AI is doing to the entertainment industry is a hundred times more revolutionary than what cameras were in the silent period.”
He was speaking at the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) on May 1, 2025.
The WAVES summit, being held at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai from May 1 to May 4, brings together prominent voices from the entertainment sector. It aims to unlock further growth in the media and entertainment industry, which touched a revenue of Rs 2.5 lakh crore in 2024.
Addressing India’s role in the global entertainment landscape, Ambani stated, “Mumbai is the entertainment hub of India. The day is not far when India will become the entertainment hub of the world.”
He described the summit as the beginning of a long journey, calling its launch “auspicious” and envisioning it as a future landmark event for the global entertainment industry.
Touching on the cultural dimension, he added, “Culture and arts have the power to unite the world. We are living in the era of the media renaissance. Most of the creation and consumption of media and entertainment industry products will start taking place in Asia.”
