Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati was discharged from the hospital after recovering from the bout of viral meningitis was hit with ahead of the 2025 edition of the UEFA Women’s Euro.
The 27-year-old is expected to join up with the Spanish unit in the upcoming days ahead of the Women’s continental event slated to be held in Switzerland.
“After several days hospitalized with viral meningitis, Aitana Bonmati has been discharged from the hospital and will join the Spanish national team in the coming days,” the RFEF said.

The Spanish midfielder was taken to the hospital after feeling ill and testing positive for meningitis and missed Friday’s friendly win against Japan in Madrid and was not expected to travel with the rest of the squad to Switzerland on Sunday. It was unclear when she would travel.
Spain, grouped with Portugal, Belgium, and Italy in Group B of the women’s continental event, will begin their campaign on Thursday in Bern against Portugal.

England will look to defend their women’s crown in Switzerland, starting their campaign against France on 6th July. The English Lionesses will also face The Netherlands and Wales in their Group D league stage encounters.
