Rohit, Kohli’s priceless reaction as Akash Deep smashes massive sixes
The Indian dugout thoroughly enjoyed Deep’s outing. While Rohit applauded the pacer’s stroke play, Kohli was all smiles after watching Deep smash towering sixes with his bat.
Team India showcased a batting blitzkrieg against Bangladesh at Green Park, Kanpur on Sunday. After bundling out the visitors for 233, Rohit Sharma & Co launched a brutal assault against the Bangladesh attack and scored the fastest team 50, 100, 150 and 200 in Test history.
It turned out to be a boundary-hitting spree with every player trying to make a notable contribution. While Rohit smashed the most sixes – 3 – in India’s first innings, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and tail-ender Akash Deep hit 2 apiece.
Interestingly, Deep endured the highest strike rate among all Indian batters, scoring 12 runs off 5 balls. What made his outing interesting was the bat he was playing with. The fast bowler walked out with the bat gifted by Virat Kohli and clobbered back-to-back sixes to go off the mark.
It was the 35th over of the innings when Deep walked out after India lost Ravindra Jadeja to Shakib al Hasan. After playing the first ball dot, the tailender whacked the ball down the ground for a towering six and followed it up with another maximum deep mid-wicket which landed farther than the previous one.
The Indian dugout thoroughly enjoyed Deep’s outing. While Rohit applauded the pacer’s stroke play, Kohli was all smiles after watching Deep smash towering sixes with his bat.
Deep attempted to go for a third six in the next over, by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but holed out to Khaled Ahmed near long-on before Rohit Sharma declared India’s innings with a slender 53-run lead.
Kohli Gifted his Bat to Akash Deep
After missing out on a chance to play with Kohli for India in February, Akash got his wish fulfilled last week when he featured in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. Before the action unfolded at Chepauk, Akash received a special gift from Kohli.
The pacer then shared a picture of the bat and also went on to reveal the story behind getting the gift from the former India captain.
“Virat bhaiya ne khud se bat diya tha (Virat bhaiya himself gave me the bat). He must have observed something about my batting. I didn’t ask for it; he came to me and asked, ‘Bat chaiye kya tujhe?’ Who wouldn’t want a bat from Virat Bhaiya? He is a legend. I was very happy to hear his words and wanted that bat. He asked me what kind of bat I use while batting, and I just smiled—I didn’t have words. Then he said, ‘Yeh le, rakh le yeh bat.’
India Declare Innings in Kanpur
Forceful fifties by Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul helped India declare their first innings at 285 for nine on the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh on Monday. India now lead by 52 runs. Earlier, Bangladesh were bundled out for 233 in their first innings.
Jaiswal (72 off 52 balls) and Rahul (68 off 43 balls) powered India’s innings with belligerent knocks. Virat Kohli made a fluent 47 off 35 balls.
For Bangladesh, veteran left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan picked four wickets (4/78) along with off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz (4/41).
