Rajasthan Royals pacer Akash Madhwal was on Thursday spotted greeting Rohit Sharma with folded hands, as a mark of respect, after the match between RR and the Mumbai Indians. Madhwal played for MI for a few seasons before being released and picked up by Rajasthan.
It was under Rohit‘s leadership that Madhwal made his IPL debut. In a video that went viral on social media, the latter shared a small chat with Rohit on the sidelines of the post-match presentation.
Rohit then pointed towards his wife, Ritika, in the stands, and Madhwal greeted her with folded hands as well. Watch the video here:
Madhwal, who was bagged for Rs 1.2 crore by Rajasthan at the IPL 2025 mega auction, made his sole appearance this season in the game against MI, where he went wicketless for 39 runs in four overs.
Madhwal also made Rohit sign his Rajasthan jersey.
Meanwhile, Mumbai extended their remarkable winning streak to six games with a 100-run rout of Rajasthan in Jaipur on Thursday, pushing the home franchise out of the race for the playoffs.
Openers Rohit Sharma (53 off 36 balls) and Ryan Rickelton (61 off 38) struck sublime fifties before Suryakumar Yadav (48 not out off 23) and Hardik Pandya (48 not out off 23) went on the offensive to power Mumbai to a whopping 217/2.
Rajasthan, who chased down 210 against the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur three nights ago with more than four overs to spare, never got going in the run chase and folded up for a paltry 117 in the 17th over.
It was Rajasthan’s eighth loss in 11 matches, while Mumbai have seven victories from 11 games. Another win should be enough to secure a playoff berth for the five-time champions.
The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi (0 off 2), who took the cricketing world by storm with his 35-ball century on Monday night, was caught at mid-on off Deepak Chahar in the first over of the Rajasthan innings.
Vaibhav’s opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, struck two towering sixes off Trent Boult in the following over before being castled by the New Zealander. It was a procession from thereon.
MI play their next game against the Gujarat Titans on May 6 at home.
