The new trend of coloured e-readers are finally catching up in India with Rakuten beating Amazon to the punch.
Just days after Amazon launched its first colour e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft, Rakuten Kobo has debuted its colour e-readers, the Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Clara Colour, in India. According to the Canadian company, these new devices are designed to improve the reading experience, allowing customers to enjoy books, journals and other content on the go due to Kobo’s e-reading technology, sustainable materials and water-resistant design.
Kobo also introduced the Kobo Clara BW, a traditional black-and-white e-reader, as well as Kobo Plus subscriptions, offering readers access to a vast library of titles.
Kobo Libra Colour And Kobo Clara Colour Price In India
The Clara Colour is priced at Rs 16,999, while the new Libra Colour costs Rs 19,999. The Clara BW will retail for Rs 14,999 upon release. All new models will be available on Amazon and Flipkart. Meanwhile, the Kobo Stylus is priced at Rs 6,899.
The Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Clara BW SleepCovers will retail for Rs 2,999 each and are available in the following colours — Cayenne Red, Candy Pink, Misty Green and Black. Additionally, the Clear Case option, which users can customise with stickers and images, is available, while the Basic SleepCover options for the Kobo Clara Colour and Kobo Clara BW cost Rs 2,399 and come in Cobalt Blue.
Highlighting the Kobo Plus subscription, users of the Kobo Libra Colour, Kobo Clara Colour, and Kobo Clara BW can access eBooks and audiobooks by subscribing to Kobo Plus.
The Kobo Plus Read subscription provides unlimited eBooks for Rs 149 per month, while the Kobo Plus Listen subscription offers unlimited audiobooks for the same price. The Kobo Plus Read and Listen subscription, which costs Rs 299 per month, grants users access to both audiobooks and eBooks.
Kobo Libra Colour And Clara Colour Features
The Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Clara Colour feature the E-Ink Kaleido 3 display, which the manufacturer claims provides a “subtle” palette while retaining the advantages of E-Ink technology.
Users of the Kobo Libra Colour can annotate, organise, journal, and highlight text in colour on its 7-inch display, which supports the Kobo Stylus 2. Its battery lasts “for weeks,” and the 32GB of built-in memory can accommodate up to 24,000 eBooks or 150 audiobooks.
According to Rakuten Kobo, if you read for 30 minutes each day with the screen brightness set to 30 per cent and with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned off, you may achieve 40 days of use from a single charge.
In contrast, the Kobo Clara Colour features a 6-inch E Ink colour display, while the Clara BW has a 6-inch black-and-white display. With 16GB of storage, both models can hold up to 12,000 eBooks or 75 Kobo audiobooks. When used for just 30 minutes a day, their battery can last up to 53 days.
