Android 16 beta update now available for people with the eligible Pixel devices and try out the new upcoming features.
Google released the first developer preview of Android 16 in November 2024, and a month later, the second preview was rolled out. The first beta version of Android 16 is now available if you have the right Pixel phone.
A recent report suggested that the first, second, and third beta builds will be rolled out around this time. The stable version of Android 16 is anticipated to launch in the second quarter of 2025. According to the Android Authority report, Android 16 Beta 3 is expected to release on March 12.
While Google has not confirmed the exact dates for the beta releases in its official timeline, a contributor to the report discovered potential release dates for the beta versions through the Android Gerrit code review site. The Android 16 beta 2 is expected in February 19 when we might see more features available for testing.
Before releasing the stable version of Android 16 in Q2 2025, Google is anticipated to release several beta versions of the update that focus on platform stability. In the fourth quarter of this year, a new version with developer APIs is anticipated.
Google has verified that the Android 16 version is available for Pixel 6a and later models, which includes the Pixel 9 series, 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 8 series, Pixel 8a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel 6 series.
It has been rumoured that the Screen-off Fingerprint Unlock feature will be included in the Android 16 Developer Preview 2. Additionally, it is said to facilitate the use of adjustable refresh rates by apps. Richer haptics are claimed to be provided via new haptic APIs that were released with Android 16 DP2.
