CES 2025 has comes with good news for Android users

Years after Apple released its MagSafe charging feature for the iPhones, it is reported that Android phones are finally ready to catch up with the wireless charging trend. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has announced at CES 2025 that Qi2 wireless charging is coming to Android, with Samsung and Google leading the way. The announcement will surely please a lot of Android users who have long-awaited for this feature to support their devices.

Qi2 Wireless charging promises a more efficient and faster phone charging with speeds up to 15W. It uses magnetic rings to ensure that the gadget is accurately aligned with its charger. This smart design reduces energy loss from misalignment, making it a more dependable option than before.

As per The Verge, Samsung has claimed that they will be releasing their Qi2-supported devices later this year, while Google said that it is “committed to the Qi2 wireless charging standard” and is contributing “its own high-power wireless charging technology to WPC.”

However, it is still unclear whether the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 series will come with Qi2 wireless charging support. Reports claim that it might offer the functionality through special covers but for the full integration, users have to wait till the company introduces the Galaxy S26 series.

Google, on the other hand, wants to improve cross-brand compatibility, which has been a problem for Android users for a long time now.

Most Android phones currently lag MagSafe-like Magnetic Alignment, with few expectations such as HMD Skyline. Apple has set the standard in this area, providing improved wireless charging with magnetic ring technology. However, the arrival of Qi2 technology could provide a big boom to the Android industry.

Although Google and Samsung smartphones also come with wireless charging support, but the adoption of Qi2 will result in faster speeds, easier connections, and improved compatibility across chargers from different manufacturers.

The report says WPC also announced that in-car wireless charging will be included in the Qi2 standard, with a moving coil that shifts to stay aligned with the coil in your phone, thanks to technology provided by Panasonic Automotive Systems.
