Rohit Sharma loses temper on fourth day of the Boxing Day Test

A day after Nitish Reddy’s gutsy hundred, Jasprit Bumrah left the hosts in a daze with a dream spell but the Australian tail wagged, adding to India’s woes on the fourth day of the ongoing Boxing Day Test. The Indian vice-captain was unplayable for the better part of the second innings and completed 200 Test wickets on the day at an incredible average of 19.56. He even got some assistance from his fellow pacer, Mohammed Siraj (3/66) in the first two sessions but the Australian lower-order showed commendable resistance to beef up their second innings total.

As the pressure mounted on India, skipper Rohit Sharma was spotted losing his temper on multiple occasions. He couldn’t hide his frustration when Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped Marnus Labuschagne on 46 at the slips. Later, he was spotted yelling in the team huddle during the drinks break before tea.

A video has gone viral on social media in which Rohit could be seen furiously addressing his teammates. Siraj stood right in front of the Indian captain who pointed at him during the conversation while Virat Kohli kept nodding his head.

Analysing the on-field scene, the Australian commentators speculated that Rohit was probably asking his bowlers to step up and back Bumrah.

“Have a look at Rohit Sharma here. This is the drinks break before the tea interval. It looks like that was directed at Akash Deep as well. Maybe Siraj, the bowlers. That was just after Bumrah was about to finish the spell, so he’s singling out the next guy right now. ‘It’s over to you. It’s short-term. Don’t sit back and hide behind Bumrah. I need you to stand up and get the job done as well’,” said the commentator on 7Cricket.

Australia’s number 8, 10 and 11 batters saw off nearly 35 overs and it could prove decisive if India doesn’t bat exceedingly well on a track which has remained true in all four days. The hosts finished the fourth day at 228 for nine, leaving India skipper Rohit Sharma a bit irritated as the home team was in a spot at 156 for 8 at one stage.
