Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks about Yogi Adityanath has triggered a fresh controversy, with the BJP slamming the party for calling the Uttar Pradesh chief minister a “terrorist”.

In a no-holds-barred attack on Adityanath on Monday, Kharge said a “true yogi” would never make remarks like “batenge toh katenge” (if divided, we will be wiped out) and “this language is used by terrorists”.

Calling the Congress “anti-Hindu” and “anti-Sanatan”, the BJP said the party is the only one to talk about “saffron terrorism” and “Hindu terror”. It said while Kharge is saying how Adityanath’s gerua attire should not be brought into politics, he would not say the same about Muslim religious leaders.

“This is the true philosophy and DNA of the Congress, which is anti-Hindu and anti-Sanatan. Therefore, the Congress is now saying those who wear gerua and saffron, the clothes of a sadhu should not come into politics but will they ever say this about maulana and maulvi?” said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on the Congress president’s statement.

“This is the same Congress that spoke about ‘saffron terrorism’, ‘Hindu terror’…they will never say such things about other faiths; it shows that the Congress hurt Hindu faith for votes of their vote bank…they consider ‘batoge toh katoge’ as communal and vote jihad as secular…” he added.

‘Congress Has Lost Mental Balance’

Another BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said the Congress has “lost mental balance” and the party will have to pay a heavy price for Kharge’s remarks. He alleged that a party, which is “sympathetic” towards terrorists, is doing “religious appeasement” by calling a Hindu saint (Yogi Adityanath) a “terrorist.”

“The Congress, which is chanting caste-based slogans, is scared of the slogan ‘batenge toh katenge’. A panicked Congress has lost mental balance. Mallikarjun Kharge’s statement will be very heavy on the Congress,” he said.
