US President Donald Trump expressed deep sorrow in the wake of the devastating Air India Flight AI171 crash in Ahmedabad and pledged full American support to India.
“The plane crash was terrible,” Donald Trump said in a statement, adding, “I’ve already told them—anything we can do… we’ll be over there immediately.”
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, killing over 200 passengers and crew, including multiple foreign nationals. Among the deceased were 53 British nationals, 7 from Portugal, 1 Canadian and 169 Indian citizens.
World Leaders Express Condolences
Global leaders expressed grief in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad plane crash. French President Emmanuel Macron said he learned of the tragedy “with deep emotion,” extending his condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the families of the victims. He said, “In these hours of pain, I extend our thoughts to the loved ones of the victims as well as to Prime Minister @NarendraModi.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a formal message relayed by the Kremlin, offered “deepest condolences over the tragic consequences” of the crash as he wished a “swift recovery” to those injured in the catastrophe.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whose country lost 53 nationals in the incident, described the crash as “devastating.” In a statement posted on X, he said, “I am being kept updated as the situation develops, and my thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time.”
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad in which one Canadian national was killed. In a post on X, he wrote, “Devastated to learn of the crash of a London-bound Air India plane in Ahmedabad, carrying 242 passengers — including one Canadian. My thoughts are with the loved ones of everyone on board.”
