Apple’s foldable plans have been talked about a lot but the company is yet to show its interest in talking about it.

Apple could finally go with a clamshell foldable design

Apple’s foldable plans continue to play hide-and-seek but now it seems the company might have something big to announce in the next few years. The company is tipped to launch an iPhone foldable around the second of 2026 which could coincide with the regular iPhone launch event.

Latest market reports say the foldable segment has slowed down and Apple is being viewed as the possible saviour for this space. This revelation comes from Ross Young who is a display analyst who claims Apple’s entry in the second half 2026 will help revive the ailing foldable market.

It is also being mentioned that Apple might prefer to debut in this segment with a clamshell form factor like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or the Moto Razr Ultra lineup. The company’s entry is being seen as a pivotal moment for the segment, which Samsung seems to be failing to lead its growth into the next phase.

The September iPhone foldable launch in 2026 could become the catalyst for the growth, and Young says, the year could see a 30 percent growth for the foldables, and around 20 percent in 2027.

Apple does have a strong value in the premium segment, and its products have delivered over the years. So, a foldable from Apple will undoubtedly carry a higher premium compared to a Google or even Samsung’s foldable. After all, the Samsung and Google foldables cost well over Rs 1.60 lakh and Apple is likely to test that figure with its own aspiration value intact.

It will be interesting to see how Apple decides to design the product, and this form factor allows the company to retain some iPhone elements in the clamshell modern form.
