Two wickets in the third T20I against England will help Arshdeep break Haris Rauf’s record and become the fastest fast bowler to dismiss 100 batters in the shortest format of the game.
Arshdeep Singh will lead India’s pace attack in the third T20I against England. The third T20I of the ongoing five-match series between India and England is scheduled to take place at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Arshdeep, who is India’s highest wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game, has picked up three wickets in two matches played so far. During the third T20I, Arshdeep will have a chance to create history. If the left-arm pacer from Punjab manages to take at least two wickets in Rajkot, then he will break Pakistan’s Haris Rauf record of being the fastest fast bowler in the world to take 100 wickets in the shortest format of the game.
Haris, who has 110 wickets to his name in 79 T20Is played so far for Men in Green, picked up his 100th wicket in the 71st match. On the other hand, Arshdeep has 98 wickets to his name in 62 matches.
The record of being the fastest bowler in the world (pacer and spinner combined) to take 100 T20I wickets is in the name of premier Afghanistan spinner and T20I captain Rashid Khan. The 26-year-old spinner crossed the 100-wicket mark in his 53rd match itself. Rashid is followed by Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal, who achieved the feat in his 54th match. If Arshdeep manages to take two wickets on Tuesday, he will equal Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga’s feat of taking the 100th wicket in the 63rd match.
By taking two wickets on Tuesday, Arshdeep will also become the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in T20Is.
During the third match of the series, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will also have a chance to become India’s second highest wicket-taker in T20Is. Hardik, who is one of the three Indian cricketers to play more than 100 T20Is, has 92 wickets to his name. He needs five more wickets to overtake Yuzvendra Chahal.
Chahal, who last played a T20I match for India in August 2023 against the West Indies, has accounted for the dismissal of 96 batters in 80 matches.
All-rounder Washington Sundar will become the 11th Indian bowler to take 50 wickets in T20Is if he dismisses at least two English batters in the second match.
