Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka was on Tuesday seen sipping on a margarita beside former Indian tennis player Prakash Amritraj on a Tennis Channel show after beating Danielle Collins in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open, even as she tried to hide the act from her coaches.
Sabalenka beat defending champion and home favourite Collins to reach the quarterfinals, where she will face ninth-seed Qinwen Zheng on Wednesday.
Sabalenka’s dominant run in Miami continued, with the star Belarusian player yet to lose a set in the tournament and she celebrated the win with a margarita sip. Watch the video here:
Sabalenka showed brilliant form against Collins in their Round of 16 clash, winning 6-4, 6-4 in a complete performance. She proved too strong for Collins, striking 23 winners while committing only 12 unforced errors.
Sabalenka was overjoyed by her win and took a margarita sip during her post-match interview with Tennis Channel.Â
“Coaches around, whose around. I know it’s a Monday but it’s all good. Either way, I think any time,” Amritraj said.
“Wait wait wait…….. they are right behind us,” Sabalenka replied.
“Congratulations on the victory, a little doorbell margarita for both of us,” Amritraj said. “That’s the best one guys,” Sabalenka replied. The Belarusian has now defeated Collins six times on the WTA Tour.
“I’m super happy to get this win in straight sets and happy with the level I played today. She’s a tough opponent and we had a lot of tough and tricky matches in the past. So was very happy to get through this one,” Sabalenka said.
The Belarusian is coming off a runner-up finish at the Indian Wells, where she was stunned by Mirra Andreeva despite winning the first set. Before that, Sabalenka was dealt a shock by Clara Tauson in a Round of 16 at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Sabalenka lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the opening round of the Qatar Open last month, having lost in the final of the Australian Open earlier this year.
With a title eluding her for the last two months, Sabalenka will look to go the distance in Miami.
