Fort Boyard

Fort Boyard, based on the French game show of the same name, ran from October 1998 to Christmas Eve in 2001.

It was hosted by Melinda Messenger until it’s final episode in 2001, before being briefly revived in 2003 as Fort Boyard: Takes On The World with Jodie Penfold.

Filmed at the fort off the west coast of France, the programme took on a similar concept to The Crystal Maze with contestants completing challenges to win prize money.

Tough quests saw participants search for keys in a bid to open the Treasure Room, coming face-to-face with gunge as they battled giant seesaws, climb ropes and wrestle a strong woman in the mud to retrieve keys.

Leslie Grantham starred as Boyard, who sets the challenges, while Geoffrey Bayldon took on the role as The Professor, a prisoner of the Watch Tower who gives the contestants riddles.

Raven

Raven was a children’s adventure game show which was broadcast by CBBC from  2002 until 2010, filming nine series’s and three spin-offs.

Presented by Scottish actor James Mackenzie, six children, referred to as ‘warriors’ would take on a series of tasks losing lives along the way.

Warlord Raven guides the contestants through each task, shapeshifting from a raven to a human and reading their minds.

Losing a challenge meant a life would be lost, represented by a feather on their flag, once all their lives were lost they would be eliminated from the show.

Tasks tested the children’s strength, agility, and teamwork as they battled obstacles such as swinging boulders, built rafts and answered riddles.

Supermarket Sweep

Supermarket Sweep was a popular grocery-based game show which ran for multiple years from 1965 to 2022.

The objective was to answer questions and pass various tests in order to win the grand prize.

Originally hosted by the late Dale Winton, it ran for exactly 8 years from September 1993 to September 2001 and then revived from February to August 2007 on ITV.

Rylan Clark-Neal took over hosting the show in 2019.

The game consists of three teams of two, each with a clock that starts with 60 seconds on it.

The teams then attempt to add as much time as possible to their clock by answering questions and riddles posed by the host.

The time they accumulate determines how long they have in the ‘Big Sweep’ round to run around a studio mock-up of a supermarket, collecting shopping items.

The team with the shopping trolley filled with items of the most value wins the chance to enter the final ‘Super Sweep’ prize round.

Originally hosted by the late Dale Winton, it ran for exactly 8 years from 6 September 1993 to 6 September 2001 and then revived from 12 February to 31 August 2007 on ITV

Are You Smarter than a 10 Year Old? is a British quiz show which aired on Sky 1 from 2007 to 2010.

The programme was based on the American television game show Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?

There were two editions, one broadcast weekly in primetime, hosted by Noel Edmonds and a daily version, originally hosted by Dick and Dom and later by Damian Williams.

The show welcomes adult contestants, who attempt to answer ten questions taken from primary school textbooks.

Each correct answer increases the amount of money the player banks; a maximum cash prize of £250,000 (or £500,000 in series three) in primetime and £50,000 in daytime can be won.

Treasure Hunt

Treasure Hunt is a UK game show, based on the format of the French show La Chasse au Trésor, created by Jacques Antoine.

It appeared on Channel 4 between December 1982 and May 1989 and was revived by BBC Two between December 2002 and August 2003.

A team of two contestants in the studio had to use a library of maps and reference materials to solve up to five clues, and communicate instructions via a radio link to a skyrunner who had the use of a helicopter.

The contestants won a higher cash prize each time they solved a clue correctly and it was all done against the clock.

In the original version, the presenter was former BBC newsreader Kenneth Kendall and the ‘skyrunner’ was broadcaster Anneka Rice.
