An aspiring lawyer was killed by a hit-and-run driver on her birthday while she was trying to help a lost dog on a Florida highway.

Maryam Ibrahim, 25, was leaving her birthday dinner Thursday night and stopped to  help a hurt dog on Dale Mabry Highway, reported WFLA.

She stopped her Kia Optima around 10:25 p.m. and approached the stray pup on the six-lane highway.

That is when the Florida Highway Patrol said an unidentified 69-year-old Tampa man driving a Toyota RAV4 struck and killed both Ibrahim and the dog.

Tragic footage from the scene showed the damaged car and a high heel on the closed-off road.

The cause of the crash is unknown, and it is unclear if the driver has been charged. DailyMail.com contacted the Florida Highway Patrol for more information.

Ibrahim, who is from Minnesota, was identified as the victim by friends and family who called her a ‘kind soul.’

‘Maryam Ibrahim was a loved and bright member of the Minnesota community,’ said a fundraiser set up in her honor.

‘Maryam was someone who exuded confidence in a way that was contagious and instilled courage and determination to those around her.

‘She had the most amazing smile that lit up any room she walked into.’

She was a third-year senior at the University of South Florida majoring in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, according to her LinkedIn.

The young woman had hopes of attending law school and had previously interned at a law firm and Florida House Rep. Michele Rayner’s office.

‘With plans to attend law school, I am pursuing a career in either contract/business/corporate law or international law, hoping to merge the two interests.’ Ibrahim said.
