A video has captured the astonishingly camp antics of a car thief who skipped away from the scene of a crash after stealing the vehicle.

The man stole a 2024 Dodge Charger, estimated to be worth at least $57,000, from a suburban home in Friendswood, Texas, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Doorbell camera footage captured the man rummaging through the car, which was parked on the street, before speeding away in it.

By 7am, the car had crashed into a ditch on the side of a road, alerting nearby resident Brad Reynolds, who approached the car and the motorist in an effort to get a picture of the number plate.

In bizarre video of the interaction obtained by ABC13, the unnamed man uses a high pitched, singsong voice to boast about his crime.

‘Too bad you didn’t get my face, it’s stolen. Ha ha, ha ha,’ he said as he skipped away.

‘It’s a stolen vehicle.’

The camp response from the thief initially infuriated the owners, law enforcement officers who did not want to be publicly identified.

But they had the last laugh after Reynolds revealed he did, in fact, get a photo of the thief’s face.

‘That’s quite a blooper there. I did get his face,’ Reynolds said.

The man was wearing an orange sweater, light-colored shorts, gloves and had a hat which he also used as a face covering.

In the video of him jumping and skipping around, he repeatedly lifted the face covering before swiftly pulling it down again.

The thief threatened to ‘come back’, telling Reynolds ‘I know where you came from’, but the neighbor warned ‘it would be unwise’ for the thief to return.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and trying to track down the suspect.

They urge anybody with information to come forward.

The Dodge Charger was severely damaged in the crash and could be a total write-off.

Both the owners and neighbor Reynolds hope justice will be served.

‘The only way you’re going to deter crime is to punish it. If you let people steal cars and get away with it, get a slap on the hand, they’ll keep doing it. I hope charges are brought,’ Reynolds said.
