Astronomer issues statement on Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot row

Astronomer has put its CEO, Andy Byron, and HR head, Kristin Cabot, on leave after a video of them reacting to a kiss cam at a Coldplay concert brought unwelcome online attention to the company this week.

The company’s statement comes two days after the incident came to light, announcing that the board has launched an internal investigation into the matter.

Cabot and Byron are negotiating their departure, Axios reported, citing sources.

The report claimed that the delay in the company’s response was caused by “Byron’s slow resignation and exit package negotiations”.

“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability. The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter, and we will have additional details to share very shortly,” the company statement said.

The company also clarified that the woman seen in the video was not Vice President of Human Resources Alyssa Stoddard, as claims were made on social media about her presence at the venue.

Co-founder of the company and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy will serve as the interim CEO, the company said.

A video of Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot at a Coldplay concert has gone viral and led to questions about their behavior. During a “kiss cam” moment, Byron was seen hugging Cabot from behind. The duo was shocked at them shown on the big screen in this manner and attempted to shield their faces immediately – the video of which went viral in a flash.

Byron had been serving as the CEO of Astronomer since July 2023.
