As an example for the younger generation, Dr Prathap C Reddy continues to visit the office at the age of 92, when the majority of the elderly schedule their hospital appointments and have retired from active life. Working six days a week, he arrives at the workplace at precisely 10 in the morning and leaves at five.
Apollo Hospitals, the first corporate hospital in India, was founded by Reddy. By offering patients top-notch medical care, his concept of establishing a corporate hospital transformed the nation’s healthcare system. His goal was to establish a medical institution in India so that people wouldn’t have to go elsewhere for care.
Who Is Dr Prathap C Reddy? His Journey And Success
Originally from Chennai, Reddy graduated from Stanley Medical College (SMC) with an MBBS. To pursue his cardiologist training, he relocated to the United States. After his father wrote him a poignant letter in the 1970s, he decided to return to India, even though he had the chance to establish a prosperous career abroad. Reddy’s father asked him to come back home and support his nation.
Reportedly, Dr Reddy was profoundly affected by a 1979 incident in which a patient in India passed away as a result of inadequate medical facilities. He decided to establish a hospital so that people might receive top-notch care. His life changed as a result of this choice. He founded a single hospital, but it has since expanded into a vast healthcare network.
Apollo Hospitals currently runs up to 71 branches around the nation. In addition, the company has 291 primary care clinics, more than 5,000 pharmacies, and a digital health network.
With a 70,000-crore market valuation, Apollo Hospitals is not just the industry leader in India’s healthcare sector but also a financial behemoth. The company’s stock is reportedly owned by 29.3 per cent of Dr Reddy’s family. Dr Reddy has an estimated net worth of Rs 26,560 crore, according to Forbes.
The life of Dr Reddy exemplifies drive, empathy and decisive action. At 92 years old, his conviction that success demands humility and greater national service is still fundamental to his life, as he stated in an interview with Business Today. His career proves that leadership is ageless and that true success is defined by long-lasting, constructive change.
