India stands at the 7th place on the list.

China stands second on the list with a debt of $14,692 billion (approximately Rs 123 lakh crore).

Many countries around the world are running their economies by taking debt from different institutions. The United States is a global powerhouse and is known as one of the world’s most powerful countries. However, do you know that the country has a huge amount of debt? Recently, the details of this information were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a handle named World of Statistics. As per the information shared, the national debt of the United States stands at $35.41 trillion (approximately Rs 2,932 lakh crore).

According to the data, US citizens also have a significant of debt over their heads. Each citizen in the US has a debt of $104,936 (approximately Rs 87 lakh) if calculated by the national debt. On the other hand, each taxpayer carries a debt of around $269,269 (approximately Rs 2.2 crore).

The data further shows that the debt has increased significantly as compared to the numbers of last year’s September. In 2023, the national debt was around $33.12 trillion (approximately Rs 2,764 lakh crore). At that time, each citizen had a debt of $98,663 (approximately Rs 82 lakh), over their head while each taxpayer had a debt of $255,353 (approximately Rs 2.1 crore).

While the United States top the list of the highest amount of debt in 2023, China stands second on the list with a debt of $14,692 billion (approximately Rs 123 lakh crore). The third country is Japan with an annual debt of $10,797 billion (approximately Rs 90 lakh crore) in 2023, followed by the United Kingdom with a debt of $3,469 billion (approximately Rs 29 lakh crore).

France and Italy stand at the 5th and 6th position with an annual debt of $3,354 billion (approximately Rs 28 lakh crore) and $3,141 billion (approximately Rs 26 lakh crore) respectively. As per the data shared, India stands at the 7th place on the list with a debt of around $3,057 billion (approximately Rs 25 lakh crore) in 2023.
