Afghan staff linked to the defunct Indian consulate in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad were attacked by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday.
Sources in India said the government was monitoring the situation. They confirmed that no Indian employee was killed or injured. The Indian Consulate in Jalalabad has been officially closed since 2020, but a skeletal staff of Afghan locals are employed there.
According to local media reports and unverified social media posts, three people were killed and one was wounded in the incident. However, there was no official word on casualties.
Tuesday’s incident is believed to be a targeted attack, though no group has claimed responsibility till the filing of this report.
