Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated numerous health sector projects totalling roughly Rs 12,850 crore at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi on October 29 to commemorate Dhanvantari Jayanti and Ayurveda Day. The Prime Minister stated that every elderly person aged 70 and up will be eligible for free hospital treatment, a game-changing move in healthcare. Such old people would be given the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, which will enable them access to full healthcare benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).

This project has already received tremendous engagement, with over 10 lakh older individuals registering for the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, ensuring free treatment and support under the plan. One significant factor of the Ayushman Bharat PM JAY project that supports the notion of universal access to healthcare is the Vay Vandana Card.

PM-JAY offers a wide range of services, such as:

– Medical consultations, diagnosis, and treatment

– The cost of pre-hospitalization

– Pharmaceuticals and medical supplies

– Services for both intensive and non-intensive care

– Laboratory and diagnostic testing

– Services for medical implantation

– Food and lodging services

– Complications with treatment

– Up to 15 days of follow-up care following hospitalisation

PM-JAY has no age or family size restrictions, in contrast to its predecessor, the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), which only covered households with five members. Additionally, this all-inclusive framework guarantees that pre-existing conditions are covered from the start, enabling patients to start treatment as soon as they are enrolled.
