Barcelona sporting director Deco has opened up about Marcus Rashford’s potential transfer to the LaLiga club. The 27-year-old Manchester United forward has been strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford after falling out of favour with head coach Ruben Amorim. There were speculations that Barcelona were one of the primary suitors for Rashford in the ongoing winter transfer window. Deco addressed those speculations in a recent interview with Movistar. “We have our priorities and if we can renew the contracts of the players we have now and if we can bring in other reinforcements, that would always be welcome,” he said.

Deco highlighted that Hansi Flick is quite satisfied with the squad he currently has at Barcelona. “The coach is happy with the squad we have, so any future decisions will be made later,” he said.

Deco then pointed out the financial fair play rules that the Blaugranas must adhere to. Hence, the club’s primary focus would be set on retaining its key stars. “These are fair play issues, and the priorities today are the renewals of the important players we have in the squad,” he added.

While Deco revealed Barcelona’s current focus, he didn’t rule out a possible transfer move for Marcus Rashford completely. “Once this is over, we can focus on one reinforcement or another, but it is not something that the manager has asked us for,” he concluded.

There were recent reports that Rashford’s representatives met with Barcelona on Tuesday in Lisbon. The LaLiga outfits played out an entertaining 5-4 victory against Sporting in the Champions League. A report claimed that both parties held ‘exploratory’ talks over a potential move for the English forward.

Marcus Rashford’s current contract with Manchester United runs until 2028. The English forward rose through the Red Devils’ academy before making his senior debut in February 2016. In the last nine years, the 27-year-old has made 426 appearances for the Premier League giants, scoring 138 goals and providing 63 assists.

While Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a fair amount of success at Old Trafford in the past, he has not played a single minute of first-team football since mid-December. He is said to be undertaking extra training sessions to find his way back into Ruben Amorim’s plans. It remains to be seen if he ends up staying at Manchester United once the winter transfer window closes.
