Jamal Musiala is still relying on crutches following a leg injury sustained during the Club World Cup, but Bayern Munich remains optimistic about his return before the end of the year.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder suffered the injury during Bayern’s 2–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals earlier this month. Musiala was stretchered off after a painful collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“Very Positive” Recovery, Says Eberl

“Jamal still has crutches, but the process is very, very positive,” said Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, during the official unveiling of new signing Luis Díaz on Thursday.

Eberl also confirmed that Musiala’s recovery timeline is similar to that of Alphonso Davies, who has been sidelined since March with a serious knee ligament injury.

“Davies had his first exercises on the field today,” Eberl said. “So far there have been no complications with either of them. We need to knock on wood that it stays that way. We obviously hope they’ll be available at the end of the year.”

Musiala’s Injury: A Distressing Scene

Musiala sustained the injury late in the first half during a 50-50 challenge with Donnarumma. The incident was so severe that replays were not shown on the stadium’s big screens at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

As Donnarumma lunged for a loose ball, Musiala’s left leg—particularly his ankle—became trapped underneath the goalkeeper’s body. The resulting twist appeared to cause a serious injury, possibly a fracture, leaving Musiala unable to stand or walk without assistance.

Davies Recovering After Cruciate Ligament Tear

Meanwhile, Davies has been out since tearing the cruciate ligament in his right knee while on international duty with Canada. He picked up the injury in the early minutes of Canada’s 2–1 win over the United States in California in March.

The setback came shortly after Davies signed a contract extension with Canada, keeping him with the national team setup until June 2030. His absence remains a concern for Bayern, especially given his importance to the squad and his recent injury history.
