‘Beautiful’ periodic home slammed as ‘sterile’ and ‘soulless’ – just wait until you see the inside

 A traditional periodic home on the market for £850,000 has been slammed for its ‘sterile’ and ‘soulless’ interior. 

The six-bedroom property on Werneth Hall Road in Oldham, Greater Manchester, has undergone an extensive renovation, with critics saying that they believe the home has been ‘stripped of pretty much any and all period charm’ and replaced with a ‘sterile medical chic’ aesthetic. 

Fit with grey bedroom carpets, plain white bathrooms and a modern kitchen accompanied with purple LED lights, the house has even been dubbed as synonymous with a typical ‘home of a serial killer’.

Marketed as ‘ideal for a large family’ with a ‘luxury interior’, the detached property comes with five bath/shower rooms, two reception rooms and a large garden. 

Externally, the home is set next to a side driveway that can fit up to seven parked cars. 

However, the stark contrast between the home’s exterior and interior has been widely criticised by social media users who took to the social media platform Reddit to discuss the property. 

One commenter described the house’s design as ‘an act of violence’ while another dubbed the kitchen as ‘the most painfuI I’ve ever seen’. 

The home also received criticism for being ‘soulless’ due to the renovation changes, while another user felt that the light-up kitchen was ‘giving budget strip club’.

One commentator felt so enraged by the home’s decor that they simply remarked: ‘Whoever designed the lighting for that should have been bopped on the nose with a rolled-up newspaper.’

Remarking on the home’s unique exterior, another said: ‘The garden looks like the car park surrounding a Tesco express’. 

The property, taking offers above £850,000, is described as having ‘under floor heating, luxury kitchen with Corian worktops and porcelain tiled walls and floors to the bathroom and en-suites.’

The listing adds: ‘The outside provides a front garden, side driveway with parking for 7 + cars, rear garden and patio area and further parking to the side.

‘Located close to local amenities and public transport. The Oldham Town Centre is a short journey away and there is easy access to Manchester City Centre.’

A representative from estate agent Wild & Griffiths, who are managing the sale, said that they believed that the ‘unique’ property used to be council-owned and has never been lived in residentially.

They added: ‘It is a unique property to be honest, its appearance outside is so different from what it inside. There’s nothing else like it so we have nothing really to compare it to. 

‘From looking at it outside, you would originally think it was just a run of the mill ordinary house. 

‘We’ve had quite a few viewing so far but no concrete offers. Because of the way it has been configured it appeals to large families. That is the target market.’
