West Bengal’s BJP unit celebrated the party’s Delhi victory with dhol, nagada and sweets, with senior leader Suvendu Adhikari saying after Delhi it was now his state’s turn to be painted saffron.
“Delhi main jeet hamari hai, 2026 mein Bangal ki baari hain (This time it’s Delhi, in 2026, it’ll be Bengal’s turn),” he said.
Not only Adhikari, other BJP leaders are also hoping for similar results. The Bengal unit has come up with posters saying ‘Delhi mein vidaa hua AAP, abhi jayega Bangal ka paap (Like AAP in Delhi, the sinners in Bengal will also be removed)’.
Party insiders told News18 that since the BJP did well in the Bengali-dominated area of Delhi, there is more enthusiasm among the state cadre.
The ruling Trinamool Congress, meanwhile, had much to say about the BJP’s reaction to the Delhi polls. General secretary Kunal Ghosh wrote on social media: “2026 Bengal Election, TMC 250, Mamata Banerjee fourth time CM. We don’t want to know what’s happening in other places. Delhi thing is in Delhi. Bengal will have no effect.”
But, this is the big question in political circles now – if Delhi will have any effect on Bengal, as the BJP has maintained a consistent focus on the state in every election.
BJP RECTIFIED ITS MISTAKES
After the 2024 Lok Sabha results, the BJP won Haryana, Maharashtra and, now, Delhi. In all these elections, the party rectified its mistakes and worked on them. It seems confident and, hence, it goes without saying this might have an effect in Bengal.
Among the INDIA bloc allies, the AAP and Congress now seem to be fading. So, it is all the more imperative that the TMC takes more responsibility at a national level to combat the BJP.
In Bengal, too, the BJP made mistakes in the 2021 and 2024 polls. Whether it does course correction will reflect on the 2026 results. The party did not have any chief ministerial face in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi. Will this theory work in Bengal?
This strategy has reaped dividends for the BJP in the last three elections. Experts said it is difficult to say if anyone can challenge Mamata Banerjee’s stature.
THE RSS ROLE
The role of the RSS was important in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi. Experts said top officials staying in Bengal for 10 days is significant.
They said the BJP will, moreover, encash the Bangladesh border situation and try to get the Hindu vote as a whole. They added that if the election takes place now, the BJP may not perform well, even thought the Delhi win is a big boost.
But, TMC insiders are upset about the AAP’s failure to retain the national capital, but also clarified that Bengal is a different ball game altogether.
