Czech tennis star Marketa Vondrousova clinched the Berlin Open crown on Sunday with her win over Wang Xinyu in the tune-up to Wimbledon.
The 25-year-old picked up a hard-fought 7-6 (12/10), 4-6, 6-2 triumph over the Chinese opponent in the summit clash in Germany.

Vondrousova, who has had to endure a tough spell due to a shoulder injury, seems to be peaking as the calendar inches towards the prestigious grass court grand slam event at SW19, where she won the crown in the year 2023.
So I’m just very grateful to be standing here and very grateful for you guys,” Vondrousova told her team.
“We were all working really hard to get me back and I felt like, you know, we came here to try to win the first match and now this is happening.” the Czech said, addressing her injury woes.

“We came here hoping to win the first match and here I am. I’m so grateful,” Vondrousova nodded at her camp, who helped through the challenging phase.
Vondrousova opened the event with a win over American Maddison Keys in straight sets, before she got the better of Diana Shnaider in a three-setter. The Czech star beat Tunisian Ons Jabeur in the quarters before toppling top ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal en route to her victory at the champions battle at the Steffi Graf Stadion.
Chinese qualifier Wang noted the excellent run she had in the grass court event stating, “It’s been an unbelievable week for us. And I just, we keep on building and looking forward for the next one.”
