Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday that the Bharatiya Janata Party did not expect to win 90% of the seats contested in last month’s assembly elections.
Speaking at the CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards (IBLA) in Mumbai, he said, “We did not expect these many seats…the increase of 5% votes shows that only two outcomes are possible, either a crushing defeat or a landslide victory, and seeing the atmosphere on the ground, I was assured of the victory…Ladki Bahin and PM Modi’s message of ‘Ek hain toh safe hain’ worked like magic for us…I had belief and patience when I had to become deputy chief minister of Maharashtra.”
He thanked the people of Maharashtra for the mandate they gave to the Mahayuti coalition, which he said is not only unprecedented but also entrusts them with the responsibility to contribute most to the Indian economy.
Rejecting various rumours over the formation of the new Mahayuti government, Fadnavis said, “We all are together since day 1…(Eknath) Shinde ji is with us since day 1.”
He added that the fate of key portfolios such as home, urban development, and finance would be decided on Sunday.
Fadnavis said that Maharashtra has always been ahead among other states and also shared that in terms of foreign direct investment flow, the state has already crossed 90% of what it brought in the first six months. “It will be a record year for FDI,” he affirmed.
He also lauded the state as a business magnet and powerhouse of the Indian economy. “We are back, and we are back with a bang,” he said.
Maharashtra is leading the way in infrastructure and the Vadhavan port will change the entire maritime economy of India, he said. The PM has announced that the third airport of Mumbai will be created at Vadhavan port.
“Atal Setu joins Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. We are creating a third Mumbai, which too will be a large business capital. This is a huge opportunity to invest in and conduct business in Maharashtra. I assure you, conducting business in Maharashtra will be the most hassle-free,” said Fadnavis.
