BLACKPINK Jennie recently talked about her experience with cold plunges and how they’ve become a part of her fitness routine.
Once a wellness trick, cold plunges are now quite popular among health and beauty aficionados, including celebrities worldwide. From Bollywood’s Kartik Aaryan to Hollywood’s Kate Hudson and Hailey Bieber, the cold bath trend is popular due to its many health advantages, which include stress relaxation, better circulation, and reduced inflammation. In a recent interview with Vogue, BLACKPINK Jennie talked about her own experience with cold plunges and how they have become a crucial part of her fitness regimen.
The South Korean singer claimed that saunas are very popular in Korea, which is why she used to visit one “every single day”. After that, immediately taking a cold plunge was a ‘natural thing’ for her. Jennie said, “The first time (cold-plunging) was a surprise. But instantly, I felt like the soreness and tightness of my body went away. And maybe because it was the first time, I had this instant boost in my mood and an overall emotional release… I often tell myself to toughen up. I tell myself that this is something that I want to do, and it’s not for the pain, it’s for the release.”
According to Jennie, she pushes herself to endure the cold for a few more seconds each day. She added that she “sets an alarm for 2 minutes and 20 seconds” and, if she is still able to maintain her composure after the alarm goes off, she tells herself, “Let’s see how long I can do today.” She claimed that the exercise is “like a reset button” for her body.
Jennie said, “Gradually your body learns to deal with this pain, and you feel so proud of yourself… immediately [after cold-plunging] you feel your blood flowing in your body, and you feel good. You feel energetic. You feel ready to go! It taught me how to embrace tension and help me push through challenges, whether in my personal life or creatively… It made me believe that I am tougher than I think I am.”
The singer claimed that the practice has helped her in loosening up tight muscles over time and has also opened up her mind. “It taught me how to embrace tension and help me push through challenges, whether in my personal life or creatively. It made me believe that I am tougher than I think I am,” Jennie said.
As per a WebMD report, although taking a cold plunge daily is safe, it is also possible to overdo it. Your body may be shocked if you jump into cold water too quickly, which could affect your breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, or even your mood. Furthermore, you risk developing hypothermia if you spend too much time in cold water. Additionally, there are chances of developing frostbite or limb numbness.
