Police have launched an investigation after the body of a mystery woman was found near a cricket club.
Emergency services were called to Brookthorpe Avenue, Burnage, in south Manchester at around 3pm on Monday following reports of a body found nearby.
The area, which includes a former cricket club, was cordoned off as officers began their enquiries, scouring the area for clues as to her identity.
The force said a Home Office post-mortem has been authorised, and urged anyone with further information to get in touch.
It added that it is too early to know whether the death is suspicious.
Officers at then scene were spotted doing an in-depth search of a field while others kept guard at the cordon.

Local residents described seeing officers scour for evidence and forensic officers arriving yesterday.
In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: ‘We are investigating after the body of a woman was found near Brookthorpe Avenue, Burnage, at around 3pm on Monday 5 May.
‘Officers are working to identify the woman and a Home Office post-mortem has been authorised.
‘Anyone with information should call us, quoting log 1867 of 5/5/25.’
