A high school has been plunged into lockdown with students evacuated from the buildings.
Bonnyrigg High School, in western Sydney, evacuated the students onto the oval at 11.30am on Wednesday.
‘Please be advised the school is currently being evacuated,’ an urgent message read on social media.
‘Please do not contact the school or your child. We will advise shortly.’
A NSW Police spokesman said the lockdown had been initiated as a precautionary search was carried out on the campus.
More than 1,600 students are understood to be enrolled at the high school.
One guardian was told by the school the children were ‘all safe and don’t worry’.
