Bride-to-be slammed over ‘greedy’ wedding gift registry… but what do you think?

A gift registry is part of most weddings – but one woman was shamed online after making a TikTok showcasing hers.

Bride-to-be Kayla Rose posted a now-deleted TikTok, showing some of the items on her registry that she would be ‘devastated’ not to receive.

However, the tongue-in-cheek post, showing her most wanted items on the Crate & Barrel registry, was ridiculed by another content creator, Callie, who reposted the clip accusing Kayla of asking too much of her guests.

The first item was a KitchenAid stand mixer which retails for $349.95, which Kayla, an elementary school teacher, wrote, ‘was a want not a need.’

The next was the Marin 20-piece flatware set for $169.95 from Crate and Barrel, which the bride-to-be quipped was a ‘desperate need.’

Next was a cordless Dyson vacuum cleaner for $349.95, which Kayla claimed: ‘We have a Berner. That’s all I need to say.’

Kayla also put a Le Creuset Dutch oven for $389.95 on her registry, which Callie slammed, incredulously saying: ‘She’s asking one of her wedding guest’s to buy her a $400 Dutch oven.

‘Oh and, a $350 ice cream maker,’ she added, showing the Ninja Creami machine they had put on their list.

‘What are you serving at your wedding girl?’ Callie snarked. ‘Do they all get gold in their gifts.

Callie concluded her video by pointing out the $699.95 10-peice pot set, slamming the bride for including it.

‘Keep in mind, people are probably already spending money on travel, hotels, dresses, suits – just to attend your event,’ she scathed in the video.

‘Then you want one of them to buy you a $700 pot and pan set?’ she said.

Callie turned comments off her video, with people turning back to the original creator to assure her that her wedding gift registry was fairly standard.

‘She called out gifts literally every single couple/bride buts on their registries,’ one user pointed out.

They continued: ‘Pretty sure I had most of those and guess what I got them because people did group gifts.’

‘I saw it and was like wait, am I crazy? Because I thought a KitchenAid was like a super standard gift/registry ask??’ added another.

Kayla posted a video, admitting the video was made in jest.

‘When you post a silly video about things on your wedding registry you’re excited about and then a big creator who loves bashing women screen records it. Now you’re getting death threats and she won’t take it down,’ she wrote.

‘Went to look expecting to see a completely egregious wedding registry, why was it such a NORMAL registry to me? A non married broke millennial I didn’t even bat an eye at it,’ added someone else.

According to a 2024 survey conducted by online wedding experts, Zola, nearly 87 percent of couples planned on adding a cash fund to their registry, with more than 37 percent intending on putting the money toward a new home.

Young couples are seeing their wedding registries as a new avenue for purchasing a home and using the money for down payments.

Amanda Pendleton, personal finance expert for Zillow Home Loans, revealed that between 2018 and 2022, ‘first-time buyers were at least twice as likely to report putting gift funds toward their down payment’.

According to Pendleton, in 2023 43 percent reported gift funds from friends and family as the source of at least part of their down payment funds.

Asking for money has usually been considered rather taboo, and improper etiquette. Many old-fashioned gift-givers like the idea of giving something physical or with intended purpose.
