Bring us some (air fried) figgy pudding! How new tech is being favoured over the traditional ovens to cook Christmas dinners

Air fryers are being favoured over the traditional oven by many to cook Christmas dinner.

A survey of 1,071 people by cookware brand Ninja UK found two-thirds planned on using their air fryer for the big day.

Top reasons included it being better with timings as well as food being easier to ‘get out’ than when using an oven.

Alongside turkeys, many respondents said they also plan to cook potatoes, pigs in blankets, vegetables and even Christmas pudding in the air fryer.

Proving the appliance isn’t just for younger chefs, 60 per cent of the ‘silent generation’ (born between 1926-45) and 49 per cent of baby boomers (1946-64) have adapted their cooking techniques to use them.

Three-quarters of those surveyed said they use them to keep costs down, while half said it was healthier than other methods.

Sue Hayward, personal finance and consumer expert, said: ‘The air fryer has been such a hit with all different ages.

‘It’s easy to use, produces tasty food and as an added bonus can save you money on oven energy bills.’
