A British man has been found dead in the sea after swimming in the sea at a popular holiday resort in Cyprus.
The 87-year-old was discovered in the water after going for a swim in Coral Bay, Paphos, on Friday.
The man was found floating unconscious in the sea after heading out into the water at around 1:30pm as other holidaymakers rushed to pull him to safety and call an ambulance.
He was dashed to hospital where doctors tragically declared him dead, according to local reports.Â
It remains unknown whether the elderly man had visited the popular beach alone or with relatives and friends.Â
The clear waters at Coral Bay are calm and shallow, making it a popular swimming spot, especially among families and beginners.
The beach is overlooked by villas and resort hotels, as well as dive centers and watersports rental shops.Â
Sidewalk cafes, grills, and cocktail bars cluster on Coral Bay Avenue – making it a popular attraction to holidaymakers and travellers.
Friday’s devastating incident comes after another British tourist was found dead in his hotel room on the Greek party resort of Ayia Napa, on August 20.
The tourist, who was not named, was taken to Famagusta General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Cyprus cops said they received a call about the man at around 9pm on the night of August 20 and added that criminal activity was ruled out.
This is a breaking news story. More to follow.Â
