Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has opted to decline a mind-boggling transfer offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal to stay at the Premier League club, reports said on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder has reportedly rejected a £700k-a-week offer from Al Hilal. The Saudi Arabian side were willing to pay up to £100m in transfer fees for the acquisition of the maestro.

Fernandes has been United’s shining light since his arrival on English shores from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.

Following a lacklustre season which saw the 20-time champions finish a lowly 15th in the English top-flight, Fernandes stated that he wouldn’t be opposed to a switch away from the Mancunian club if the funds the club would receive in return for the transfer of the playmaker would help the side with a much-needed rebuild.

“If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it is what it is and football sometimes is like this,” he said.

However, head coach Ruben Amorim revealed Fernandes’ intentions to stay at the skumping club and help the side back to its former glory. The coach’s words seem to have done the trick as Fernandes opted to continue his spell with the Red Devils.

“He sees us taking some actions and to change all the things. I think he wants to stay,” the Portuguese boss said.

“I talk with him, I explained some things and I just have that feeling when you talk to someone, I think you have that feeling if he wants to stay,” the 40-year-old head coach added.

United also ended the season trophyless following their UEFA Europa League Finals defeat to fellow PL strugglers Tottenham as Brennan Johnson’s lone-strike gave Ange Postecoglou’s men their first title in 17 years.

United had to endure further embarrassment at the hands Southeast Asia XI in the exhibition fixture in Malaysia after the conclusion of the Premier League, before saving face with a come-from-behind win over Hong Kong in the subsequent friendly during the English side’s post-season tour of Asia.
