An outgoing outage means thousands of BT customers are reportedly unable to access BT email services.
Outage-tracking site Downdetector shows reports of outages beginning to spike around 5am, receiving more than 5,000 complaints from customers, BBC News reported.
On its website, BT has apologised to impacted customers and said it is ‘investigating the cause’. Other services including Broadband, TV and mobile packages appear to be unaffected.
A BT spokesperson told The Metro : ‘We’re aware that some BT email customers are unable to access their email on webmail and via the app.
‘We’re investigating the cause of this and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.’
‘Alternatively, customers can switch off wifi and use mobile data to access their email. No other BT service is impacted.’
One user wrote: ‘I can’t even put into words how angry and upset I am with [BT] just now, absolute nightmare and extremely unhelpful.’
Many customers expressed their frustrations at BT’s lack of visible communication about the status of their service.

BT customers took to social media to air their grievances about the outages, having founf themselves unable to access their email
One said: ‘#BT #btinternet Hi I can see the email server is down but nothing on your site to let us know there are issues.
‘Come on guys it wouldn’t be hard to add a service status banner advising that you have issues and be assured you are working on them. Customer Care 101!’
Another user added: ‘This seems to be a major issue with [BT] Email. But you wouldn’t know it from their website or helplines etc. Zero information anywhere.’
The BBC said that the outage hit across the entirety of England and Scotland, with complaints flooding in from as far afield as Aberdeenshire and Dumfries to Warwick, Norfolk and Wakefield.
The outages come in the wake of an announcement by BT that it is increasing tariffs on its mobile and broadband services.
Customers who started their current contract from April 10 2024 will see their broadband bill will go up by £3 per month on 31 March of this year.
Meanwhile, those who have been on the same BT contract since before April 10 2024 will get an inflation-linked 6.4 per cent price rise.
As of 2.11pm on Saturday February 15, BT said their email systems were once again operational.
A spokesperson said: ‘Earlier today some BT email customers were unable to access their email. The issue has been resolved and we’re very sorry for any inconvenience caused. No other BT services were impacted.’
