The largest book fair in the Bundelkhand region has commenced in Jhansi. This 7-day event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Mukesh Pandey of Bundelkhand University, alongside Vice Chancellor Prof. Siddharth Singh of Nalanda University, Bihar, and Commissioner Bimal Kumar Dubey.

Over 60 publishers from across the country have gathered at the fair, bringing with them more than 100,000 books. In addition to Hindi, books in other languages will be available, as well as publications on science and technology.

Prof. Mukesh Pandey highlighted to Local 18 that various other academic activities are also taking place during the fair. He emphasised the value of books, noting that they provide companionship, especially when one is travelling or living far from home.

“Knowledge comes from either experience or books,” he said, adding, “Life is too short to gain all experiences, but books can significantly enhance one’s understanding, imagination, and knowledge. The pleasure of turning pages and reading is unmatched by any electronic device.”

Commissioner Bimal Kumar Dubey expressed concerns about the declining interest in reading due to the prevalence of mobile phones and the internet. He underscored the importance of studying books as a primary source of knowledge, complementing what is learned from teachers.

“Living among books fosters character in a way that artificial intelligence cannot,” he stated, adding, “While AI can create images, it cannot build character. Books pave the way to new knowledge and nurturing a relationship with books will help shape a new culture and nation.”
