The death toll of the Los Angeles fires swelled to at least 24 people as mayor Karen Bass continues to be slammed for her handling of the tragedy, with a petition demanding her resignation collecting over 100,000 signatures.
It has now emerged the Democrat, who was in Ghana when the fires started, had promised to not take trips abroad as mayor when she was campaigning, as reported by The New York Times.
On Thursday firefighters are working to contain three active fires ahead of a predicted return of high winds that will make the conditions extremely dangerous again.
The wildfires have now burned more than 40,000 acres and forced 150,000 people to evacuate.
