The RSS recently held a Sangh Samanvaya Baithak — a rare meeting not frequently held — over two days in West Bengal, involving members from three regions of the state, with notable attendees including prominent BJP leaders such as Sukanto Majumdar, Suvendu Adhikari, and Dilip Ghosh.

The two-day event fostered a sense of unity, with participants living and praying together. BJP sources believe the meeting will yield multiple benefits for the party. The event, however, has raised certain questions: Is RSS strengthening its presence in Bengal? Will their societal influence based on their ideology benefit BJP in 2026?

Mohan Bhagwat’s recent 11-day stay in Bengal has fuelled speculation about RSS’ increased involvement in the state. Bhagwat emphasised the importance of engaging with RSS rather than criticising it the outside. With RSS’s centenary year approaching, significant activities are anticipated nationwide, potentially impacting BJP’s prospects in Bengal.

An RSS pracharak, speaking to News18, highlighted the significance of such meetings for achieving specific targets, citing a similar instance in 2019. “Whenever we have a special target or a special occasion, such meetings take place. Our motto is to change society on the basis of ideology. BJP leaders represent one of the organisations that participate in this meeting.”

Unity Factor

Factionalism has been a major weakness within Bengal BJP. However, this two-day meeting saw leaders like Sukanto Majumdar and Dilip Ghosh sharing moments of camaraderie over tea and samosas. This shared experience aims to foster unity within the party.

Locket Chatterjee, in conversation with News18, expressed the positive sentiment of togetherness experienced during the meeting. The emphasis on RSS and BJP as unified families highlights the effort to strengthen bonds. Leaders reportedly addressed internal issues, suggesting a positive impact on BJP unity.

Hindutva Factor

RSS’s emphasis on Hindutva unification was a key discussion point. Leaders from various regions brainstormed strategies, considering the situation in Bangladesh and demographic shifts as relevant factors. These discussions contribute to their ideological campaign.

Reports from Maharashtra, Haryana, and Delhi highlight RSS’s significant role in those regions. Some Bengal BJP leaders believe RSS will play a crucial role in the state.
