Canada Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Mark Carney’s Liberals Set To Form Minority Govt, Jagmeet Singh Trailing

Canada Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Approximately 28 million Canadians began voting Monday for a new government to confront annexation threats from the United States and deal directly with President Donald Trump, whose trade war has defined the campaign.

The Liberal Party, led by new Prime Minister Mark Carney, is projected to form the next government in a dramatic political comeback, defeating the Conservative Party, led by Pierre Poilievre. They are the top candidates in a crucial election to determine the next Prime Minister of the country dogged by Trump’s tariff policies. A party needs 172 votes in the House of Commons to form the government.

Carney, 60, has never held elected office and only replaced Justin Trudeau as prime minister last month. He is banking on his fiscal policies to counter Trump’s trade policies and reduce reliance on the US. Poilievre, a 45-year-old career politician, has tried to keep the focus on domestic concerns that made Trudeau deeply unpopular toward the end of his decade in power.

The Liberal Party looked set for a historic election defeat until the US president’s attacks on the country sparked a sudden reversal in poll forecasts. Final polls indicate a tight race but put Carney as the favourite.
