Swimming sensation Summer McIntosh captured her second gold medal in as many days on Monday, winning the 200m individual medley at the World Championships in Singapore.

The 18-year-old Canadian touched the wall in 2 minutes, 06.69 seconds, ahead of Alex Walsh of the United States (2:08.58) and fellow Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey (2:09.15).

Just missing out on a podium finish was 12-year-old Chinese prodigy Yu Zidi, who placed fourth with a time of 2:09.21. Yu had burst off the blocks fastest and was in medal position through the early stages but faded slightly in the final stretch.

Red-Hot McIntosh Eyes Historic Championship Run

McIntosh arrived in Singapore in exceptional form, having already won the 400m freestyle on Sunday’s opening day of competition. She now sets her sights on joining swimming legend Michael Phelps as the only athletes to win five individual titles at a single world championships.

The reigning Olympic champion and world record holder entered the 200m medley as the overwhelming favorite, having shattered Katinka Hosszu’s decade-old world record earlier this year. At the Canadian trials in June, McIntosh posted a blazing time of 2:05.70, rewriting the record books.

She also broke her own 400m medley world record during those trials, marking her third world record in just a matter of days.

McIntosh emerged as one of the biggest stars at the Paris Olympics last year, winning three gold medals, including a double in the 200m and 400m medley events.

In Singapore, her campaign is far from over. She is still scheduled to compete in the 400m individual medley, 200m butterfly, and 800m freestyle—events that could further cement her place among the sport’s all-time greats.
