The couple were having sex in their spacious 2020 Range Rover near the Schuylkill River in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, about 4.15am on Wednesday.
As the couple enjoyed their lovemaking, an errant limb accidentally nudged the gear stick into drive and the SUV began to roll away.

Before they knew it, the car toppled over the edge into the river near the Strawberry Mansion Bridge and began sinking.
Both man and woman were able to escape from the car before it sank under the water, but had a very embarrassing swim back to dry land.
The car’s headlights cast an eerie green glow across the water through the early morning until the fire department could attend to it.
