Dispelling rumours about his future, Casemiro has reportedly decided to see out the remainder of his contract at Manchester United. According to The Mirror, despite interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, the Brazilian midfielder remains committed to staying at Old Trafford for the next 18 months, until his deal expires.
In an interview with AS (via Mirror), Casemiro reaffirmed his dedication to United, stating, “Above all, I respect Manchester United, a club to which I’m very grateful. I have a year and a half left on my contract, and I’d like to fulfil it here in Manchester. I’m comfortable, my family has adapted, and we speak English. I’m very grateful to the fans and the club. I’m happy at club level.”
Meanwhile, The Mirror also highlighted Casemiro’s status as one of the Premier League’s highest earners, with a weekly wage of £350,000. Reports suggest that Manchester United is exploring ways to offload high-salary players as part of a squad overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, Casemiro’s clear stance indicates that he is determined to continue his journey at Old Trafford.
Casemiro left Real Madrid and joined Manchester United in August 2022. The Brazilian midfielder arrived at Old Trafford on a €70 million ($73.3m) deal. He had won five Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles in nine years at Real Madrid. Casemiro did kickstart his stint at Old Trafford on a promising note but the 32-year-old failed to carry forward the momentum. His form has also not been impressive over the last season and half.
In the January transfer window, Casemiro was linked with several other clubs including Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr. But his much-talked-about move did not materialise eventually. Casemiro has not been a regular starter for Manchester United in recent times as he fell down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim.
Casemiro made a return to Manchester United’s starting XI during the Premier League contest against Tottenham. The match against Tottenham, marked Casemiro’s first Manchester United appearance in the Premier League since December last year.
With Manchester United dealing with multiple injury issues, Casemiro may get another chance to feature in the playing XI in the next fixture against Everton. In their next match, Manchester United will be up against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday, February 22.
