Women entrepreneurs are essential to building resilient communities and thriving economies

On Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, we celebrate the remarkable determination, innovation, and transformative impact of women entrepreneurs worldwide. These trailblazers are not only redefining industries but also reshaping socio-economic narratives by turning local challenges into global opportunities. From breaking systemic barriers to fostering inclusive growth, women entrepreneurs are at the forefront of change.

Empowering Women Through E-Commerce

The rise of e-commerce has provided a powerful platform for women entrepreneurs to thrive, and organizations like Amazon are leading the way in supporting their journey. Gaurav Bhatnagar, Director of Sales, Amazon India Marketplace, highlights how programs like Amazon Saheli have empowered thousands of women across India to build and scale their businesses.

“At Amazon, we are dedicated to empowering women on their journey to build and scale their businesses, contributing to the socio-economic growth of the country,” says Bhatnagar. “Through Amazon Saheli, we have partnered with over 60 NGOs, NFPs, and government bodies to support women entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs like the founders of Ikaanya, Flawsome Sanitary Pads, and Himalayan Haat are making a significant impact with their unique products and commitment to quality.”

Looking ahead, Amazon’s goal to digitize 10 million MSMEs in India by 2025 places women entrepreneurs at the heart of building a thriving digital economy.

Enabling Financial Independence Through Direct Selling

Empowering women to achieve financial independence has also been a core mission for Oriflame, a leader in direct selling. Edyta Kurek, Senior Vice President, Oriflame India and Indonesia, shares how the company’s model supports women in developing regions like India.

“Eighty percent of our Indian brand partners are women who are building thriving businesses and achieving financial independence,” says Kurek. “Our nearly 30 years in India reflect the incredible entrepreneurial spirit of Indian women. We’ve seen women transform their lives—buying homes, completing degrees, and even taking their first trip outside their hometowns—all through the opportunities we provide.”

By offering eco-friendly, high-quality products and a flexible business model, Oriflame empowers women to succeed as micro-entrepreneurs while championing gender equality and sustainable development.

Breaking Barriers and Scaling Globally

While many women entrepreneurs are driving local economies, systemic barriers still hinder their access to resources and global markets. Aashita Chadha, Co-founder, The KariGhars, emphasizes the role of mentorship and technology in breaking these barriers.

“Leading brands play a pivotal role in empowering women—not just through financial support but by acting as enablers of growth, inclusion, and innovation,” Chadha explains. “Initiatives like Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Women show how targeted support can redefine industry standards and amplify diverse voices.”

Chadha believes that scaling globally is about more than revenue—it’s about reshaping narratives, driving systemic change, and inspiring the next generation of women leaders. When brands invest in women, they invest in resilience, diversity, and innovation, creating a future where businesses reflect the strength and creativity of their communities.

A Call for Inclusive Growth

Women entrepreneurs are essential to building resilient communities and thriving economies. Whether through e-commerce platforms, direct selling, or targeted mentorship programs, organizations and brands must continue to invest in women, ensuring they have the resources to succeed.

As we celebrate Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, let’s honor the incredible women who are turning dreams into realities and challenges into opportunities. Their success stories are not just milestones—they are blueprints for a more inclusive and innovative future.
