The Centre has released guidelines regarding the extension of Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) facilities for all serving and retired Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) employees. It includes the roles of various regional offices involved, clarifications of the application procedure and subscription payments. Here are a few things to know about the health schemes for KVS employees.
The CGHS scheme is not mandatory but optional for serving and retired KVS employees. To select for the CGHS facility, retired personnel must complete the prescribed application form (Annexure-II of the KVS letter dated November 4, 2024).
Meanwhile, all fields in the application form are mandatory and incomplete forms will be rejected. Additionally, a retired employee who was once onboarded in the scheme cannot deboard from it in the future.
The retired employees will submit the application form and subscription amount to the Retirement Benefit Sanctioning Regional Office. Account numbers and IFSC codes are provided for remittance purposes. The office keeps the amount submitted by the employee.
The selected regional office will be responsible for paying the amount to the CGHS authorities at the city rate. However, if they do not have enough cash, they can request more funds from KVS Headquarters.
A letter to discontinue the Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) will be issued by the Retirement Benefit Sanctioning Regional Office, KVS Headquarters, or Zonal Institutes of Education and Training (ZIETs). This letter will be attached before sending the application to the designated regional office.
The retirement benefit sanctioning regional office verifies details in the form, issues a letter to stop FMA, confirms receipt of CGHS contribution and maintains records.
Meanwhile, the selected regional office facilitates CGHS card issuance and reimburses medical claims for retired employees. It transfers the application and the CGHS contribution to the appropriate CGHS authority and also reimburses medical claims. The guidelines are intended to ease the process and guarantee that eligible employees of the KVS, both current and retired, can easily obtain CGHS benefits.
