Chaos has descended in New York City after a gunman seen carrying a large assault rifle opened fire inside a Midtown skyscraper, killing an officer and wounding at least five others.
The unidentified gunman was seen wearing a sport coat and button-down shirt while carrying the large rifle near the office building that houses Blackstone asset management and the NFL on Monday evening.
He then opened fire inside the lobby at around 6.30pm, with approximately 30 people inside before he reportedly took his own life.
Officer Didarul Islam, who was working private security at the time, was killed in the attack and the conditions of the five other victims remains unclear as the investigation continues.
