Jaclyn Smith has described what her Charlie’s Angels costars Farrah Fawcett and Kate Jackson were really like to work with.
The 78-year-old told People on Wednesday there was no drama. And never did they have catfights.
‘It was just girls having fun. We were like college roommates. Just independent women, making our way,’ said the clothing designer.
‘There was a camaraderie of shared history,’ she added.
‘We crossed that bridge and it changed our lives. There was no walking into a grocery store in an anonymous way anymore and so, for all three of us, there was a special bond.’

Smith adds that the women were never competitive.
‘We weren’t [going], “I want this scene, I want that one,’ she also shared.
Farrah died on June 25, 2009 at age 62 after a long, painful battle with cancer. Smith is still close to Jackson.
And Jaclyn loved Farrah like a sister.
‘She was a true girlfriend,’ said Smith to People. ‘Not a competitive girlfriend, she wished everybody well.’
The perfume creator added: ‘She was the first to visit me after I had my first child. I could see her joy because she knew that was my dream — to have children — and the dream had come true.’
Smith continues: ‘But she was funny, too. She would say, ‘Look — your fingers aren’t fat anymore. Now you don’t have to wear napkin rings around them!”
Jaclyn will be co-chairing The Farrah Fawcett Foundation’s annual gala on October 24, 2024, in Dallas, Texas.

The series aired from 1976 until 1981. ‘It was just girls having fun. We were like college roommates. Just independent women, making our way,’ said the clothing designer

On the 15-year anniversary of Farrah’s death, pals took to social media to pay tribute.
Farrah’s close friend Alana Stewart, who used to be married to rocker Rod Stewart, shared older photos of Farrah on Instagram with a touching note.
‘Remembering Farrah…15 years today since her passing with some of her more well known photos as well as some not so familiar. RIP my sweet sister. I think of you every day. #iconic,’ she wrote as Melanie Griffith hit the like button.
Smith shared an old clip from their popular TV show.
Smith talked to People in 2019 about the last time she saw her friend of 40 years.
‘She was in pain and couldn’t stay still,’ said the brunette beauty. ‘I was rubbing her feet, trying to make her feel better. And that relaxed her. We must have talked for three hours about our lives, about our children, about growing up in Texas. The time I spent with Farrah at the end was the best because we appreciated the friendship.’

Smith also said that Farrah was ‘relentless in her fight.’
Fawcett filmed her cancer fight for a documentary, even showing her bald head after chemo and radiation. And she broke down in tears when hearing tumors had returned to her liver.
‘Who would have dreamed that this girl who was known for the smile and the hair and the glamour would open up the depths of her soul to share with the world?’ Smith told People.
The looker from Texas, who was married to Lee Majors and had a long relationship with Ryan O’Neal – – who died in December 2023 – launched The Farrah Fawcett Foundation to raise money for research and education.
When Farrah first told Jaclyn she had cancer, she said the diagnosis shocked her.
‘She said, ‘I always thought I might get breast cancer or heart disease but never this’ and she started to cry,’ said Smith. ‘I never saw her cry after that.’

And their friendship was real: ‘What I remember about Farrah is that as much of an eight-by-10 glossy as she was, she was the friend who cheered me on, the girl who loved her parents, the girl down the street.
‘Together, we shared the ups and downs of life, of happiness and sadness. I miss her every day. A lot of people are gone now and that’s hard. I miss them and it’s okay to miss them.’
Smith also touched on the years that she made Charlie’s Angels with Fawcett.

She said that the two, as well as co-star Kate Jackson, had ‘each other’s backs’ on the set.
‘It was like a college dorm, eating in our trailers together,’ said Jaclyn.
‘Sometimes we’d shop on weekends for what we were going to wear. We were not just actresses working, but girlfriends and it remained that way for 40 years.’
Most people think that Farrah was on Charlie’s Angels for all five years, but she actually left the series after season one to pursue dramatic work.

Fawcett was also seen with Michael York and Jenny Agutter in the sci-fi cult classic Logan’s Run in 1976
The series aired from 1976 until 1981.
‘When Farrah decided to leave after one season, we all supported her,’ said Smith.
‘She wasn’t afraid to say, ‘This is what I’m gonna do.’ Farrah wanted to be seen as a serious actress. She marched to her own drum. And once she was accepted as an actress, she went back to Playboy and posed at 50 years old. From a serious actress to a sex symbol again. There was never a boring moment.’
Smith also acknowledged that the show made all of them.
‘It changed our lives. We were sorta like rock stars. When we went to Hawaii for the season opener, we had guards around the clock. We all went on to do our thing, but the power of Charlie’s Angels — it helped define who we were and where we went.’
