Indian hope Arjun Erigaisi was held to yet another draw in the ongoing edition of the Chennai Grandmasters on Wednesday, as he had to be happy with splitting the points with Dutchman Anish Giri, who registered his seventh-straight tie at the Hyatt Regency.
Masters leader Vincent Keymer inched closer to the title as his opponent on the day, American Liang Awonder, decided to resign as the German took his points tally to five and a half points with four wins and three draws, and remains unbeaten.
Nihal Sarin got back to winning ways as he triumphed over American Ray Robson, while Karthikeyan Murali bested Vidit Gujrathi, while Jorden Van Foreest’s winning run was brought to an end by Pranav V, who fought back valiantly to pick up half-a-point.
Keymer leads the table and stands on the cusp of glory as a better result than Erigiaisi on the penultimate day would seal his supremacy at the Tamil Nadu Capital City.
Abimanyu Puranik had to settle for a draw with Aryan Chopra in the challengers section, as did Adhiban B and Iniyan Pa, who also registered a draw in the fixture between the two Indian prospects.
Pranesh M got the better of Vaishali R, who is still in search of a win at the event with just two games left to go. Leon Luke Mendoca posted a win over Diptayan Ghosh to add to his tally. Harika Dronvalli slumped to another defeat as Harshavardhan GB got the better of the seasoned campaigner.
Pranesh and Mendoca remain inseparable at the top of the Challengers table ahead of the final two rounds of play.
