An off-duty police detective from Chicago has been found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in his home.
The 59-year-old man was found dead about midday on Friday inside the house on the 3900 block of West 104th Street in Mount Greenwood, Chicago.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office was yet to perform an autopsy to confirm the cause of death, and had not released his name.
Superintendent Larry Snelling announced his death in a message to officers, saying the detective worked out of Area 2 Division, which covers most of the South Side.

‘I ask that you keep his family, loved ones and all those who worked alongside him in your thoughts as they process his unfathomable loss,’ he wrote.
‘Grief can weigh heavy on us as we try to understand the loss of a fellow CPD member.’
Snelling urged officers to make use of CPD’s Employee Assistance Program and Chaplains Ministry if they needed it.
