Excessive use of mobile phones and other gadgets can have a negative impact on children and lead to mental and physical health issues, poor academic performance and eyesight problems.

As a result, parents and teachers must take active steps to reduce the screen time of the children and motivate them to engage in real experiences. Here we’ve mentioned some of the ways by which you can keep children away from smartphones and other gadgets. Have a look:

Set a Good Example

Children learn from their parents and if you’re addicted to a smartphone, there is a high chance that your kid might also get addicted. Keep your own phone out of the bedroom and away from the dinner table, therefore, children can see and learn that it’s not always necessary to keep your phones on and handy.

Encourage Physical Activities

Encourage your kid to take part in physical activities like sports and other things that can help them boost their physical strength, endurance and overall wellbeing. This would help them get away from the digital world and engage in real-world experiences.

Set Limits on Screentime

Creating clear rules and limitations for screen time is an important step towards helping your children prevent digital addiction. This includes limiting the amount of time your children can spend viewing screens every day or week, as well as defining guidelines for when screens can be used, such as not during meals or before bedtime.

Educate Your Child

Remember, creating awareness is often more effective than scolding. Talk to them and educate them about the negative impacts of excessive usage of smartphones and other gadgets. Help them understand the potential negative effects of smartphones on their mental and physical health, relationships and overall well-being.

Set Passwords

Kids are clever and will always manage to remember your phone password. Therefore, try changing your mobile or laptop passwords regularly. If you are strict regarding the excessive use of gadgets, your kid will learn that there is a limit on using them.

Develop A Reading Habit

Reading a book or newspaper is a habit that has decreased dramatically since the introduction of fast internet connections and smartphones. We are so engrossed in our phones that we have practically forgotten to read. Ask your kids to develop a reading habit and read newspapers daily which will help them increase their general knowledge and be aware of what’s going on in their surroundings.

Discover Art

Art and crafts could be an effective way to make your kid avoid smartphones. Introduce them to painting, sketching or musical instruments and dancing. Give them some specific task every day to draw different images and reward them with gifts.

This children’s day, spend time with your little ones and take them out for a picnic to make them feel appreciated. This would also help them move away from their gadgets.
