Chimps Take Center Stage: Celebrating Jane Goodall’s Legacy at Mumbai’s MuSo

‘Celebrating Jane’ exhibition will be on display from August 5 to September 30, at Museum of Solutions in Mumbai.

This immersive display, which runs from August 5 to September 30, gives a close-up view of Dr. Goodall’s groundbreaking work with wild chimpanzees and her significant influence on international conservation efforts.

The Museum of Solutions (MuSo), a unique children’s museum in Mumbai, in collaboration with the Jane Goodall Institute India, will host the first-of-its-kind exhibition on the life & times of Dr Jane Goodall. Titled “Celebrating Jane,” this unique exhibition will provide an immersive insight into the life and work of the world-renowned ethologist and conservationist, Dr. Jane Goodall; known for her lifelong research on wild chimpanzees in Gombe, Tanzania. This travelling exhibition marks the first official showcase in India of Dr. Jane Goodall’s extraordinary journey.

As part of this exhibition, JGII & MuSo are recreating Jane’s tent to provide children and visitors with a captivating experience of her daily life with her chimpanzee friends. These wild chimpanzees take centre stage at the Celebrating Jane exhibition, which offers profound insights into Jane Goodall’s life and the significant impact she has created through her youth programme ‘Roots & Shoots’. The JGII & MuSo collaboration aims to establish a true-life connection between Jane’s legacy and the visitors on a more personal level, thereby making her story more relatable.

The Celebrating Jane exhibition will be hosted at the Museum of Solutions from August 5 to September 30, 2024, 10 AM onwards. It aligns with MuSo’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) education, encouraging children to take positive actions for a better future. Children and visitors will have the opportunity to explore an entire floor dedicated to Dr. Jane Goodall’s extraordinary journey through five distinct zones: Introduction to Jane, Early Life, Life in Gombe, Celebrating Jane, and the Chimpanzee Guided Zone. The exhibit also delves into the global impact of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots programme in India, which empowers young people to make a positive difference in their communities. This exhibition will also introduce the children and visitors to the Roots & Shoots ‘Oceans Are Us’ programme. This allows young and curious minds to explore, learn, collaborate, plan and act towards creating a lasting change, one that helps restore the health and natural splendour of our oceans.

Dr. Jane Goodall, widely regarded as the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees and a trailblazing ethologist, dedicated over 60 years of her life to studying the social and family interactions among chimpanzees. The Celebrating Jane exhibition employs a blend of immersive and interactive tools to highlight her childhood dreams; iconic studies at Gombe; and evolution from a scientist to global activist. Dr. Goodall’s ground-breaking research began at Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania in 1960. Celebrating her pioneering spirit and unwavering dedication to wildlife conservation, the exhibit features hands-on activities and educational programmes designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love for nature among children and families. The curated experiences at Celebrating Jane underscore JGII & MuSo’s joint commitment to promote sustainability and inspire children to connect with nature, understand global challenges, and become active participants in their communities.
